Graphic Design Unit on Logo Design

Towards the end of my journey at Brewer High School, my mentor teacher Lori gave me the responsibility of writing and introducing a unit to the Graphic Design class. It had to be about Logo Design but there were various ways to go about it. I decided to design specific projects that would get students involved in the process of designing for a client, as well as get them involved in fashion by introducing screen printing their designs onto secondhand or unwanted textiles.

I chose fashion because this class seemed to care quite a bit about what they wear, and I wanted them to see that they are capable of creating wearable items for themselves.

I learned that listening to students expressing their interests (sports and patch-making were some of the interests these students expressed) can be truly inspiring for projects. It feels good to be heard when you are a young adult and it can be motivating when your work has something to do with your interest. I will keep reminding myself of this when I work with adolescent students.

Moving forward I will learn more about the local art happenings of the community and find more artists for students to be inspired by.
