Standard 11: Technology
“Effective teachers model and apply the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS•S) as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students, colleagues, and the community. All teachers will meet the following standards and performance indicators.”

Graphic Design: Photoshop and Drawing Tablets

I was a lead learner with Photoshop. I helped students with going through the steps of using specific tools and methods in Photoshop. I learned some of these procedures just from watching Lori do them once, or from asking students questions on how they did that and pooling all this information together for all students to learn.
I was in charge of demoing how to create value using a drawing tablet with the Photoshop software. This meant that I had to spend time beforehand creating a digital drawing that built up a range of values.
I also had to know about pen pressure and how to help students get their tablets to the correct settings so that they would be able to achieve varied line thicknesses naturally. This was a common problem with the drawing tablets, and I was efficient in helping students find the settings they needed to solve it.

Some problems took collaboration to solve. For example,
during the first day of this lesson, a student was facing some challenges with figuring out how to make texture in their drawing on their tablet. I had two students who were using a separate photo editing software on their personal tablets, and this was one of the two students. I reminded them to check-in with the other student who had the same program and they were able to share the variety of tools for making texture.
Moving forward I would like to learn more about how we can use technology in a productive way, with less distractions. For example, mindfulness breaks with apps that guide? Or how to set up a computer that organizes your workspace in a way that only allows you to see one thing at a time.
